What is The Price of a Real Hoverboard?

Recently we did some research to find the price of a real hoverboard. Many people wonder if a real hoverboard, like the one in the movie Back to the Future 2, even exists. The answer is yes, no, and maybe.

No company has yet produced a slim device without an engine, rocket, or propeller that matched the floating skateboard  we saw Marty McFly ride in the movie. Having said that, one company has produced a slim board without an engine, but…. this board needs a magnetic track in the ground to hover above and it needs lots of liquid nitrogen in the board itself.

So, here we are in 2021 slowly moving towards the technology of a real hoverboard. Can you buy these real hoverboards? The answer is definitively yes, and the prices are definitively high. A real hoverboard will run you $5,000 to $30,000 USD, depending on which board you want. Can’t afford the real thing? There’s always the self-balancing, 2 wheel hoverboards, which only run $150-$350 depending upon the brand and features.

In the this article we will compare the prices of next gen hoverboards that currently exist or are launching in the upcoming year. (If you are looking for normal two-wheel hoverboards, the best pricing and selection is at Walmart.com.)

Lexus Slide Hoverboard Price

This product is the “latest technology” hoverboard available in market. According to the official website the skateboard is made of maglev technology, contains HTSLs (high temperature superconducting blocks). The magnetic structure of the board helps it hover above the ground. But, two important things to note: 1) The board consumes liquid nitrogen, and you will need to refill it often and 2) the board will only hover over a magnetic track that has been laid in the ground. It took months of research and testing to develop this board. The company has uploaded a video on youtube showing how this board works.

Estimated Lexus Slide Hoverboard cost – $10,000-$20,000 but of course you would need a custom park built for this board.

Hendo Hover

Hendo is one of the few companies working towards developing a real, commercial hoverboard. This board uses magnetic field architecture technology. They first starting developing their product in 2013 when they with basic structure as shown in the above image. In 2016 they developed a working  model true hoverboard. Although company has not mentioned it’s price, we can  guess from the technology they are using that the cost would be $5,000 to $7,000.

OMNI Hoverboard

Omni, based out of Quebec in Canada claims that they are the first real hoverboard developer. The 33 year old inventor of this product has traveled the world, flying his hoverboard at festivals, soccer games and big events.

You can see his videos and stunts here https://www.facebook.com/omnihoverboards/. In his first ever flight he managed to travel 5 meters above the water for a distance of 275 meters. This board is like a giant propeller powered drone that carries a person instead of an Amazon package.

Estimated OMNI Hoverboard price – $10,000 to $20,000 USD depending on the configuration.

Franky Zapata’s Flyboard Air
ez fly hoverboard

A few years ago Franky Zapata’s EZ Fly Hoverboard  was showing up all over the internet. He has been promoting it hard ever since. He created it using small jets and a platform. It can travel at speeds of up to 80mph as well as an altitude of up to 9,000ft! You just lean in the direction you want and off you go. Just don’t crash. We’ve heard that you can rent these hoverboards or see a demo for $3,000. The purchase price is likely $25,000 to $30,000 for recreation use and more for military use. Don’t you wish you had the extra money and a good life insurance policy?

The Arcaboard

arca hover board
Even though it looks sort of like a floating LEGO, the Arcaboard does its job, allowing you to hover above the ground for 3 to 6 minutes, thanks to 36 high-power electric ducted fans with a maximum thrust of 200 kgf (430 lbs). It stays stable in any condition and is a said to be very safe. You can use your phone to control it. You can recharge the ArcaBoard in 6 hours and the ArcaDock accessory will bring the onboard batteries to full capacity in just an hour. This could be one of the projects that speeds flying hoverboards into the marketplace. Pretty awesome. The price of this board is not listed, but we estimate is at $12,000 to $15,000.

Prices of Regular Hoverboards

Now look at the prices of regular hoverboards, which cost as much as $500 when they were introduced, but now cost as little as $100. We think that Walmart has the best selection of hoverboards for sale at the best prices. One advantage of buying a hoverboard from Walmart is that if it arrives defective, or breaks within 30 days, you can simply take it back to the store for a refund. If you purchase on Amazon, and it’s defective you will have to mail it back and given that most hoverboards are 20-30 pounds, that will cost you about $50.
